The Finnish Association of Marketing, Technology and Creativity (MTL) in brief

The Finnish Association of Marketing, Technology and Creativity (MTL) represents the interests of professional marketing and communication companies.  MTL unites companies that increase their customers' competitiveness through marketing and communications and create growth and business results.  MTL covers the wide field of marketing and communications service companies.  MTL's member companies include advertising agencies, media agencies, PR- and communications agencies, digital agencies and event agencies.  The total number of staff of MTL's member companies is about 1600, and their combined gross margin on sales totals about 220 million euros.

As the interest group representing the industry, MTL aims to improve the operating conditions of its member companies and the whole industry.  In addition, MTL provides member services and holds awards, training and events with the aim of developing the field.  MTL also conducts research and produces data on the industry.  MTL is a member of leading umbrella organisations in the industry: EACA (The European Association of Communications Agencies) and ICCO (The International Communications Consultancy Organisation).  MTL is also member of The Finnish Advertising Council.


MTL's highest decision-making body is the General Assembly, which convenes biannually.  The General Assembly elects the Board of MTL.  The Board steers decision-making in the association and defines the strategy.  The office implements the strategy led by the Managing Director.  Chairperson of MTL's Board is Mr. Mikael Jungner and Managing Director is Mrs. Tarja Virmala.

Main events

MTL organises various awards, events and training.  The aim of all these activities is to further knowledge and skills in the industry and increase the effectiveness of marketing communications.

Effie Awards Finland

Effie Awards Finland measures the effectiveness and results of marketing.  Effie evaluates both the effectiveness of advertising and creative solutions.  Winners seamlessly combine design, marketing research, media, creativity and project management.

MTL Communications Awards

MTL Communications Awards were first held in 2011. The awards recognise long-term and effective communications in several different categories.  In addition, the communications work of the year and communications agency of the year are awarded.

Marketing Communications Week

The Marketing Communications week is the biggest professional event in the industry, and gathers together marketing, advertising, communications and HR professionals for two days.  The event is organised by MTL and Wanha Satama. For more information on the event visit

Finland's Most Marketing-oriented Engineer 

Finland's Most Marketing-oriented Engineer competition was first held in 2012. Together with its partners, MTL is awarding Finland's Most Marketing-oriented Engineer. The prize will be awarded annually and candidates are sought from Finland from all fields of business. The winner is an individual, who have successfully combined marketing and engineering and have had a great contribution in launching new business, product or service or have created new entrepreneurship. The candidates and therefore the winner must have engineering degree or Master of Science in Technology degree. The winner will be selected by a prestige jury.
